Weight Loss Myths and Confusions
There are various myths and confusions associated
with weight loss and health. It is very important to know the truths or facts and get rid of those myths and
confusions from ones mind.
I too was occupied with many myths and confusions and it took me some time from
my experience to get to know the truth behind them. I am sharing the many myths and confusions prevalent in a
humans mind on the journey towards weight loss and the truth behind them. Once you know the truth and
act upon it , you will be a winner .
MYTH : losing weight is a difficult
process and it requires dieting and one has to go to a Professional weight loss trainer/Gym for help.
TRUTH : Losing weight is a disciplined process but not difficult. Dieting (eating very less food)
is going against the body. The right combination of proper exercise, healthy diet and proper rest leads to a
healthy weight loss and good health. Going to a Gymnasium is good if you do have time and money for it. But
if you do not have time and money , you can get the same results as you get in the gym by following a natural
lifestyle. One needs to know just 3 attributes of weight loss and start implementing them, Exercise , healthy diet
and Proper rest. All the tools provided by nature are available for losing weight and getting fit. You just need to
know what they are.
MYTH : I have FAT genes and I can do nothing about it. Even if I lose weight it will come
TRUTH : Some people are born blessed with non-fat genes. I was not a blessed one as both my
paternal and maternal side belonged to the fat gene group. And on top of that I added FOOD as a decoration to my
Leading a healthy lifestyle(proper exercise + proper diet+ proper
rest) made me diminish this theory that you cant do anything about fat genes. Since I lost
weight many years back, it has not come back . In fact my body now acts like a fat burning machine , thanks to my
good metabolism which I improved with my healthy lifestyle.
Therefore, " a healthy lifestyle over a period of time will start doing
miracle to your body."
MYTH : If one exercises hard , one can eat anything.
TRUTH : An overweight person on the weight loss journey MUST understand that the body adapts best
to proper exercise complemented with a proper healthy diet. If the body is only exposed to Exercise and not
complemented with proper healthy diet , the weight loss process is compromised. It holds true visa versa. A healthy
diet also helps in combating diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure .
As famous Fitness Guru Jack Lalanne said "EXERCISE IS THE KING, HEALTHY DIET THE
QUEEN AND YOU HAVE A KINGDOM". even if you miss one you wont have a perfect kingdom(a perfect healthy
MYTH : Potato will make you fat so do
not eat it. It is carbohydrate stay way from it.
TRUTH : Potato is one of the most healthy things (quality carbohydrate ) one can have. It is only
how you prepare it. If you steam/boil it its perfect for you.
If you butter it its not perfect for you. "Its the method of preparation which makes
a natural food unnatural".

MYTH : Drinking honey with lime water in the morning will help reduce weight.
TRUTH : For an overweight person trying to lose weight this is a NO NO. Honey is natural sugar
but very high in calories with a high glycemic index.
If a fat person drinks it in the morning it will aid in the fat process. From an
ayurvedic point of view honey has benefits like it helps in sour throat etc.
But it dose not help in losing weight.
MYTH : To loose weight I need to exercise more and more and more .
TRUTH : Everything in too much excess is bad and that holds true for exercise as well. A
balanced consistent exercise regime as per age complemented with a balanced healthy diet with proper rest/recovery
will make you lose weight and gain good health.
MYTH : For fast weight loss we have to exercise for long time every day and eat high
protein diets , low carbohydrate diets , no fats.
TRUTH : A human who has gained weight in some years MUST understand that weight loss is a
consistent process and healthy weight loss is the one which follows that process. Living a natural lifestyle with
proper exercise ,
proper diet and proper rest will help you losew weight in
a natural way and also you will gain good health. Fast weight loss programs are not healthy
MYTH : For weight loss and good health one should eat only one or 2 meals in a day.
TRUTH : Eating frequent small meals(4-5) in a gap of 3-4 hours in a day is the ideal way to
Human body is designed by god like apes. We have a small stomach through which the
digestion process tales place.
Giving too much food at one time loads the digestion system and it takes a long time
for the food to digest as well as the energy released by food in the body is much more at one time. Eating small
frequent meals releases less energy in the body at one time which helps maintain the body' s metabolism(the rate at
which the body burns food energy).
So please DO NOT EAT HEAVY LARGE MEALS. EAT SMALL NUTRITIOUS FREQUENT
MYTH : Weight training is not desired
TRUTH : Weight Strength Training) is an important attribute towards a well defined toned healthy
God created the human body and gave so much heart, kidney, liver, muscles etc. So to
see those muscles we have to perform correct weight bearing exercises. The right approach to exercise is a
"combination of Cardiovascular Exercise and proper weight training exercises". Yoga (stretching exercises can be
added as desired).
The idea should be to develop lean muscle mass and not bulky muscle. Lean muscle can
be developed by men and women both just by using simple sets of dumbbells and barbells. Refer to my workouts
section for both men and women more.
MYTH : Gadgets such as Sauna belts help in weight loss and reducing tummy.
TRUTH :Please remember this equation and you will live

MYTH : Some Herbal or Ayurvedic Products can help reduce weight without exercise or any healthy
TRUTH : Again the answer to this is :

DIET + PROPER REST) X CONSISTENCY.
CONFUSION: Should I exercise in the morning , evening or what time?
ANSWER : We humans live everyday on a day/night basis. The human body secretes
hormones(good and bad) based upon the time of the day . The right time to exercise can be morning , evening or even
before lunch(in the gym). It all depends as to how our body adapts to the time we exercise and also the time we
have to exercise out of our busy schedules.
By experimenting my body I figured out that for me either morning (6A.M to 7AM) or
evening(6Pm to 7PM) was the right time for me to exercise(mainly do cardio). For strength training I always do it
in evening as I have more energy to lift weights in evening. I do some deep breathing exercise (Pranayam) in the
Therefore , your bodily rhythms will tell you what time your body adapts best to
exercise and what kind of exercise(Cardio, strength training). After exercise you must have a good feeling . Try
experimenting cardio in the morning and evening and figure out what's best for you. But never do weight training on
an empty stomach. I would prefer doing that in the evening.
CONFUSION: I Want to have a body like Hrithik Roshan or Angelina Jones. Should I do more cardio or more
weights or what and what kind of Foods to eat to get that body.
ANSWER : It is VERY VERY IMPORTANT to define your GOAL which you want to achieve, but it should
be a realistic goal. My goal was to lose weight to get rid of my High Blood Pressure, high Cholesterol and reach a
respectable figure with a lean defined toned body where I could where any clothes I wanted.
Aim for an achievable goal and do not just get carried away with celebrity stars
profiles. Remember good health constitutes to having Blood Pressure in range, blood sugar in range, all
organs of the body working fine, a decent respectable lean body and overall you feeling fit from within. Therefore
define your goal and work towards it.
CONFUSION : Once I lose weight it will all come back if i stop exercising?
ANSWER : Weight loss with a consistent program of healthy exercise, healthy diet and healthy
rest tunes your body and it metabolism. It takes some time for your body to get adapted to your healthy lifestyle
routine . Your weight will only come back if you start living am unhealthy lifestyle over a period of time.
Weight Loss and Weight Gain is not like a switch which you can put on ON/OFF mode. Over a period of time based upon
the lifestyle you lead determines weight gain or weight loss. And the most important thing in leading a healthy
lifestyle is accumulation of GOOD HEALTH. It takes time for the consistency to dig in.
But once your body gets adapted, the healthy process starts.
My weight has not come back since I lost it many
years back. The secret is:
lifestyle of healthy exercise, healthy diet and healthy rest".
CONFUSION/EXCUSE : I don't have
time to exercise and I don't have the will power as well.
ANSWER : Out of 24 hours in a day, 7-8 hours we need to sleep. 8-10 hours we need to give to
our profession. So we are left with 6-8 hours . Out of that you can give 3-4 to your family(watching tv,
taking kids out, dinner). 2 hours you can give to do daily jobs(travel, etc.).You still can always take out
30-45 minutes for your self. And you will only take out time for yourself if YOU WILL HAVE A STRONG
REASON to do it. Every human being has the will power to accomplish things
. A positive attitude with right type of knowledge will help overweight
people come out of their comfort zones towards a healthy lifestyle.
CONFUSION/EXCUSE : I try to
exercise and take care of my diet, but only for a shorter time. I guess my will power is very
ANSWER : There is something called as
"Self Discipline". Whatever activity you do , you have to have some self discipline to fulfill that activity. Self
Discipline is not forcing yourself to do things out of compulsion, but doing things to get the desired result and
enjoying that result.
